Learning Beyond the Classroom
What is Learning Beyond the Classroom?
Learning Beyond the Classroom (LBC) is Greenwood School's personalised learning programme that helps students learn and develop in ways that work best for them. Alongside their education, students can take part in practical, hands-on activities, vocational opportunities, community experiences and personalised learning programmes that build confidence, independence and life skills.
Every student's programme is tailored to their interests, strengths and future goals, helping them stay engaged, develop new skills and achieve success both in and out of school.

What can it provide?
LBC offers a wide range of opportunities designed to support personal development, wellbeing, employability and learning. These may include:
Bespoke one-to-one programmes based around a student's interests.

Vocational experiences and practical skill development.

Outdoor learning opportunities.

Therapeutic activities.

Group projects that build teamwork and communication skills.

AQA Unit Award modules and opportunities to gain recognised achievements.

Functional Skills support in English and Maths where appropriate.

Examples of activities may include bushcraft, mountain biking & bike maintenance, landscaping, hair and beauty, fitness activities, creative projects and many other personalised opportunities. Provision is reviewed regularly to ensure it continues to meet each student's needs and aspirations.

Who can use it and how?
Learning Beyond the Classroom is available to Greenwood School students who would benefit from a more personalised approach to learning and development. Placement within LBC is agreed between school staff, families and other professionals where appropriate.
The process begins with an initial meeting involving the student, parents or carers and a member of the LBC team. During this meeting we get to know the student, discuss their interests, strengths and goals, and explore the kinds of opportunities that would help them succeed. A personalised timetable is then created, combining suitable academic, vocational and enrichment activities.
Throughout their time in LBC, students receive ongoing support and regular reviews to ensure their programme remains engaging, meaningful and focused on positive outcomes.
At Greenwood School, Learning Beyond the Classroom helps students discover their strengths, build confidence and develop the skills they need for adulthood, employment and lifelong learning.
