Interventions - Plan for the Year

Our Intervention Offer

At Greenwood, we are committed to identifying and responding to students’ individual needs. The need for additional support may be identified by staff through baseline assessment on entry to Greenwood, classroom observations, assessment outcomes or a student's weekly mentoring session.
If the need for a time limited intervention arises, the staff member completes an intervention referral form to outline the student’s needs and their baseline data. Referrals are then reviewed, and appropriate interventions are arranged with our intervention team. Wherever possible, sessions are scheduled to minimise disruption to students’ timetables and ensure they continue to access their wider curriculum and learning opportunities.
Our interventions are carefully planned, with each student’s starting point established before sessions commence. Students are typically offered an initial block of six sessions, delivered by members of the team with the relevant skills and expertise. Following each session, staff record the content covered, student feedback and observations of progress.
The intervention team also reviews students’ progress weekly to ensure that support remains appropriate and effective. At the end of the six sessions, an assessment or written report is completed to evaluate the impact of the intervention, identify progress made and recommend next steps. Students are then supported back into their class to assess whether they can generalise the skill learned during their intervention.
Students, if required, can be referred more than once for interventions and staff can also request that a student is supported in class, rather than having one to one support away from peers. This ongoing cycle of assess, plan, do and review ensure that interventions meet individual needs and that students make progress both within their sessions and when back in their main class.
Students are typically referred for interventions in English, Maths and Science. They can also be referred for interventions within the themes of: Healthy Relationships and friendships, Health and Emotional wellbeing, online safety, attendance and engagement, self-confidence and self-esteem. These interventions can be delivered in a variety of ways including through the use of Art and PE.
